The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) (Jeux des Petits Etats d\'Europe, Giochi dei Piccoli Stati d\'Europa, Smáþjóðaleikar Evrópu, Juegos de los Pequeños Estados de Europa, Jocs dels Petits Estats d\'Europa, Il-Logħob tal-Pajjiżi ż-Żgħar ta\' l-Ewropa) is a biennial multi-sport event, that has been organized by the National Olympic Committees of eight European small states, since 1985.



Members

Countries that are represented by autonomous National Olympic Committees, are located in Europe, and which have a population of less than one million are eligible to participate. The participating countries are Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and San Marino, all of which have participated since the first Games in 1985. With its 2006 declaration of independence, Montenegro became a member of the Athletic Association of the Small States of Europe.

Future members

The Faroe Islands, although already recognized by FIFA, is seeking recognition by the IOC for the purpose of participating in these games.

List of sporting disciplines

In Monaco 2007 the 12 sporting disciplines will be athletics, basketball, gymnastics, judo, shooting, sailing, swimming, table tennis, bowls, tennis, beach volleyball and volleyball. Previous events have included cycling, bocce and squash.
